Allen Wyatt Brooks

Allen Wyatt Brooks, 87, of Lamar, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the home of his son and wife (Justin and Jamie Brooks) surrounded by his family after a short battle with recurring prostate cancer.

Allen was born July 11,1938 in Laramie, Wyoming. His best memories were of friends and family, and time spent growing up on the ranch around the Laramie Peak area. He attended high school in Rock River and attended college at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

He married long-time friend of the family Erma Lu Kafka on June 4, 1960. They farmed for a little while around the Torrington area, then Allen went to work for the highway department. They moved to Douglas, Wyoming in 1972 where he worked for the highway department, United Mining- Uranium, and then the Exxon Corporation.

In 1982 he was transferred to Denver, Colorado with Exxon. That was a big move for the country boy and his family. It was during this time that he lost his hearing. In 1988, Allen’s wife Erma passed away suddenly, and he was a widower at age 49.

It was after his wife Erma passed away that he started attending a church plant in Aurora, Colorado. He attended with former members of South Sheridan Baptist Church, and a former female member caught his eye. His first date with Dollie Lang was attending a Valentine’s Banquet. Both had lost their spouse so had a lot in common. They were united in marriage on September 9, 1989.

Allen’s dream had been to move back to his home state of Wyoming. That dream came true when he and Dollie were able to move to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1991. In 1993 they established their homestead on a hill overlooking Sheridan with the best view of the Big Horn mountains. Allen worked for the county, a feed mill company, and then retired from Sheridan College in the early 2000’s.

Allen’s wife Dollie passed away in 2019. He missed her greatly but was able to live independently in his home until September of 2024. A huge shoutout to his son Justin and his wife Jamie who opened their home to him to live out his life. He embraced the new journey with gratitude and was able to enjoy these 2 years with dignity.

He always loved the outdoors. In his younger years, he would go hiking, collect arrow heads, garden, or pick fresh asparagus by the river. His faith was very important to him and his biggest wish that all his friends and family come to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Allen had a quick wit and a laugh that was unforgettable. His life experiences taught him common sense wisdom. God gifted him with Scriptural insights that he loved to humbly share.

Even though his hearing was gone- he kept in contact with many friends, family and even health care professionals. His daily texts of the weather and temperature will be missed by so many.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Fern, his brother Frank and wife, his sister Helen and husband, his first wife Erma, his second wife Dollie, a bonus son Steve Lang, and other extended relatives. He is survived by his children: John and Dee Brooks of Denver, Colorado, Justin and Jamie Brooks of Lamar, Missouri, Heather and Rod Wall of Sidney, MT; his grandchildren Jeremiah Brooks of Denver, CO, Christianna Wall of Sidney, MT; his bonus children: Jerry and Linda Lang, Rick Lang, Donna Lang, Andy and Marie Lang, and bonus grandchildren: Christie Gerwinat, Scott Lang, Kellie Sanford, Tim Lang, Amy Lang, Beverly Boyce, Liz Hill, Ruth Ann Everson, Rebekah Lang, Charity Combs, Bethany Martineau and their families.

Allen was a friend and mentor to many and will be greatly missed. The family extends their gratitude for your kind words and prayers.
