Margaret Ann Smith

Margaret Ann Smith, 85, of Liberal, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

Margaret was born in Gideon, Missouri, to Effie (Walker) and Delbert Whitledge. On August 20, 1954, she married her greatest love, Jimmy Wayne Smith, and together they shared 63 wonderful years before his passing on June 21, 2017.

Throughout her eighty-five years, Margaret embraced many roles with love and dedication. She was first and foremost a devoted wife to Jim, a caring mother, a beloved mother-in-law, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family, and her remarkable legacy continues to grow—114 and counting—all from two kids who fell in love.

Margaret’s life was filled with service, both to her family and community. She supported her husband as a pastor’s wife, worked as an office manager and licensed insurance agent with American Family Insurance, and later found joy as a cook for Head Start. She was also a loving pet owner to her little dog, Macy, who brought her companionship in her later years.

A woman of deep faith, Margaret was a dedicated member of Main Street Bible Church in Liberal, Missouri. Her life reflected her love for Christ, her family, and her community.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her children Jim Smith and wife Sharon of Liberal, MO, Doug Smith wife Randi of Jasper, MO, Mark Smith and wife Amy of Liberal, MO, Kathy Miller and husband Keith of Joplin, MO, David Smith and wife Lynn of Liberal, MO, Greg Smith and Melissa of Grove, OK and Brian Smith and wife Sabra of Liberal, MO. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 29 great great-grandchildren, and three more babies who are on the way.

The family will receive visitors from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, also at Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Margaret will be remembered for her unwavering love, gentle spirit, and the enduring legacy she leaves in the hearts of all who knew her.
