Marvin Dale Hogue Jr., 57, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, following a lengthy battle with diabetes and kidney disease.
He was born in Joplin, Missouri, at Freeman Hospital to Sam and Lois Harris. Marvin spent much of his life in southwest Missouri, residing in Jerico Springs for many years and maintaining strong ties to the surrounding communities, including El Dorado Springs and Lamar.
Marvin attended Stockton High School, where he completed all 12 years and graduated with the Class of 1986. He attended Lamar Area Vocational Technical School. Over the course of his life, he built a strong work ethic through a variety of hands-on professions. He worked in construction for many years, operating heavy equipment and driving dump and gravel trucks. For a decade, Marvin also worked with individuals with mental disabilities, a role he took great pride in and found deeply meaningful.
At the age of 17, Marvin was baptized at the Free Will Baptist Church in Jerico Springs, Missouri, and he carried a lasting love for the Lord throughout his life. He also held a special place in his heart for the McGatha families of Jerico Springs, whom he considered his own.
Marvin had a wide range of personal interests. He enjoyed collecting wolf memorabilia, 1980s vinyl records, Zippo lighters, Avon cologne decanters, and clocks. He was a lover of dogs and always had a faithful companion for company. In later years, as his health declined, he spent much of his time on his computer connecting with people from around the world, building friendships and sharing conversations that brought him comfort and joy.
He is survived by the love of his life, Wendy Mahan Dixon; his brother, Jamie Stone of Liberal, Missouri; his sisters, Denise (John) Theriot of Nevada, Missouri, and Nina (Mike) Thomure of Hudsonville, Michigan; his son, Trey Hogue of Ozark, Arkansas; many grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “G-Pa”; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carrie Marlene Hogue in 1995, and his brother, Pat Cox in 2010.
Marvin will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his devotion to those he cared for, and the connections he made with people both near and far.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and information will be updated when available.
